West of Geraldine is Te Moana Forest. Bordered by Te Moana Road on the Southern boundary and to the North, Leishman Road, access into the forest is straightforward. Throughout the property is a series of metalled and non-metalled forest roads. The property is made up from a series of freehold titles spanning a total of 638.42ha with a total net stocked area of 464.7ha.
The earliest plantings were established in 1992 combining both Pinus Radiata and Douglas Fir. This trend continued with the remainder of the property planted systematically through the '90s in both species with the majority being pine. The 2022 crop was aerial seeded at a rate to try achieve stocking around 3,000sph. Professional managed from establishment including through harvesting, the more mature age classes in both species are in good condition and have good growth rates, as evident in the extent of commercial forestry plantations in the direct vicinity to Te Moana. Projected carbon flows are strong looking into the future.
Te Moana Forest is registered in the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) under the stock change accounting method with 13 carbon accounting areas totaling 389.6ha across the block. 2 additional CAAs of 14.9ha applied for under the permanent category. All NZUs have been claimed up to the 2023 mandatory emissions return period and will be retained by the vendor. With a mixed age class and diverse species forest creating significant carbon flow projections into the future, Te Moana presents an excellent carbon investment.
To add further scale to the investment, Te Moana can be bought in conjunction with Alpine Forest. Alpine Forest is a similar scale carbon investment situated south in Fuchsia Creek. The 496ha property has strong carbon flows with NZUs claimed up to the 2023 mandatory emissions return. Combining the carbon profiles of both forests creates a passive carbon investment of much larger scale.
